New rules update out recently.

Not too many changes - Looks like final version 2 rules are on the horizon.

I see that your squig / idol army went down in price, Ben

It went down in price quite a lot. It’s a shame I gave all the gnashers back!!!

Guys, do you think it's realistic to settle on a standard game size at Spiky? Some want 4.5k, some 5k (or should I shut up and just have 2 lists prepared lol?)

If I had to choose I would probably go for 4.5k as it can be a struggle to finish a 5k game by 11, it is also the more common value used in tournaments.

However Donnie tends to go for 5k and Chris I think was planning to do the Spiky tournament at 5k as well so not sure we will get complete consensus.

Sorry Dean- you could have said what size you want to play tonight!
I personally like 5k because you get to bring more stuff 4.5 might be more sensible overall but I don't think I'd only want to play it. In general I'd be pretty flexible though as I don't like to stick to a list for very long any (tonight's is a new one) - just let me know when organising.

It was just a thought, I'll just have 2 lists on the go for my armies.

It's nice to have the extra toys but 5k does tend to fill the table and maneuver becomes impossible as 2 long lines crash in to each other. On the other hand I should buy a second organ gun....

Hmm... deployment and movement coordination is more difficult in bigger games, yes but I'm not sure the extra 500pts makes that much difference; it's effectively an extra good unit or 2 chaffs. 4.5k should probably be the default as that's what the game is balanced for.

Do we (you as clearly I don't ) know when 2.0 is to be released proper yet? I've flicked through the 9th age forum but get distracted reading other stuff every time. I'm trying to avoid printing off 2.05 if possible - just done armies and magic so far.

I haven’t printed anything off yet. I think the intention is to release the gold version by the end of the year so not too long to wait.

I know what you mean about 500 points not making much difference. I am just aware that I am a relatively slow player so rarely finish before 10:30 even at 4,500 points

They probably won't be changing much from now on, then. The new o&g monster options look interesting but I'm not keen on the base size increases - will make it even more difficult to hide from shooting... also I like it that trolls are cheaper - think I might get some more for chistmas

Sounds like 4500 is the preference so I'll do my next list at this size.
Would be interesting to see where the time is spent overall - set-up, deployment, individual phases, packing away etc.

The base size changes were purely to accommodate people’s models. I’ve got giants and Wyverns that don’t fit on the current bases so it just means that people with non GW models are able to play with them. I don’t think they gave too much thought to the rules.

It’s probably deployment and movement that take the most time. I’ve seen people use chess clocks but that is a bit excessive. I honestly don’t mind what points size I play. I like list writing so am happy to change things every few weeks.

I look forward to facing all your monsters next year then - how many of each does that make overall?!?

We'll have to put a tournament (a casual one) in the calendar for 2019 so I can focus on developing a list a bit. - I like the idea of the one I took against Dean with 35 goblin raiders, but suspecr it isn't particularly competitive - you can take a look tomorrow.
