I play occasion, but think of it more as a filler...never really played it enough to get a good feel for the use of some cards...

I told my friend that and he tried it out, just money, provinces, and colony's (we were playing with an expansion) and he won by a considerable margin.

I think the problem is that when you've spent a small fortune on the expansions, you feel the compulsion to use the cards!

Even in the first game, the action cards make the game more interesting, rather than just buy money, buy victory points. Some of the action cards from the expansions are bonkers, whilst others are plain rubbish.

I quite like the Seaside "remains in play" ones, though I'm not much sure they are of any actual use.

Not really played too much with Alchemy or Prosperity...
